For regional and authentic Chinese food, locals usually head to Binondo Chinatown, where nearly every restaurant promises an incredibly flavorsome, inexpensive menu.
Similarly, Banawe has a long lineage of Chinese restaurants, offering everything from traditional dishes to fusion and experimental food. Last week, my friends and I discovered Templo: a hidden gem tucked almost out of sight in the middle of Dapitan Street.
From dim sums, Szechuan-style Fish Soup, and other Chinese specialties, let’s have a closer look at Templo Modern Szechuan Restaurant.
Among its most popular dim sums are the Crispy Xiao Long Bao, which arrived both hot and crispy, Golden Squid Ink Hakaw, Salted Egg Buns, and Salted Egg Kuchay Dumplings.
The menu also features delicate dishes with high-end ingredients such as the Empire Abalone Stew, Sweet and Sour Kurobuta Pork, and Szechuan Saikoro Beef Sausage.
For those looking to get the complete experience, Templo also has fantastic seafood dishes prepared with delicious flavour. Do try the Ginger Shrimp with Taopao, Empire Seafood Roll, and Halibut Chong Qing Style Soup. These dishes are so delectable and perfectly illustrate Templo‘s commitment to experimenting with flavour combinations.
Other dishes such as the Pork Ear Vinaigrette in Coconut Milk, Special Spicy Chicken Liver (a must-get!), XO Fried Rice, and Black Chicken Soup also highlight Templo‘s fusion of styles. Lastly, don’t forget to reward yourself with their Signature Milk Tea, Avocado, and Milo Coated Ice Cream.
Templo offers an intense kick of flavour and a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant space itself is sleek and modern, with an abundance of natural lighting and simple decorations, making it a light and pleasant Chinese cuisine experience.
My advice? Order lots and eat the leftovers at home.
