Feature: Bistro United

With so many restaurants and cafes in Kapitolyo, you can probably eat at a new place every time you go out for years. The local ‘Foodie Scene’ has been abuzz with excitement about the new kid in town–Bistro United. This restaurant prides itself on serving up creative new dishes alongside old favourites.

A quick look at their menu and it becomes clear what all the fuss is about: new Filipino diner food and a well-curated drinks menu that excite even the most difficult to please. From their unique appetizers like Smoked Fish Pockets to the Nacho Poppers, you’ll find dishes you can’t get anywhere else, cooked to absolute perfection.

So, this is the perfect time to expand your palate, as well as your stomach, but before you order, here’s the primer on Bistro United‘s delectable dishes:

Adobo sa Mangga

Adobo is the quintessential native dish: vinegar-braised meat sometimes cooked with soy sauce, bay leaves, peppercorns, and coconut milk. But, you’ve never had Adobo like this. Bistro United‘s version, called ‘Adobo sa Mangga’ is vinegar and soy sauce-free. The chicken is grilled and then sauteed in green mango puree and bagoong, topped with fresh green mango slices and garlic chips, and served on a sizzling plate. There’s no doubt you’ll flip over these scrumptious flavours. It’s one of the most unique flavor profiles out there and it’s either you’ll hate it or you’ll love it, but you’ll never forget it.

Porchetta Kare-Kare

Porchetta Kare-Kare: A dish worth driving here from any part of Manila. The peanut sauce was rich and fragrant, and the Porchetta had the crunchiest skin and tastiest meat. I also appreciate that it was plated beautifully. In my opinion, thoughtful presentation leads to a more enjoyable meal.

Other notable dishes include Crispy Ubod Salad, Bagnet Ravioli, and Dalandan Chicken. You can’t go wrong with their Roast Beef either. They also make Sammies, Burgers, and Po-Boys so if you don’t have the biggest appetite, you’ll still enjoy a bite to eat with some fresh fruit shakes/juice.

The restaurant’s Arroz Caldo Overload is also something to write home about. It delivers warmth and comfort in a bowl; A dish that can soothe the roughest afternoons and keep you warm in chilly nights.

For dessert, their Carrot Cake and Banana and Mango Turon are tops in my book. These are simple, straightforward desserts that will surely end the meal on a sweet note.

Bistro United‘s contemporary take on traditional classics means that you can try something new every time you visit. Whether you fancy a light grub or simply hope to fall into a food coma, this no-frills spot has the answer to all of your food indulgences. When it comes to bang-for-your-buck eats, drinks, and airy interiors, this place can’t be topped.
